A popular home improvement is opening up an interior or exterior wall by adding French or sliding doors. On exterior walls people will generally add a door as another way to exist there home while allowing more daylight to enter the home. Before a new door can be added to your home, you will need to figure out where on the wall the door should go. Careful planning at this stage will prevent an expensive error on your part. In the picture below you can see how our client used blue painters tape in order to mark out where they wanted the door to go.
Once the sheetrock or plaster is cut away, the framing of you home is changed in order to provide support for your home so your home does not sag. Generally a new header is used to carry the weight of the roof or floor above over to the studs (2x4's) on the sides. Once the framing is done, the floor needs to be filled in and then the door can be installed.
Once the door is installed, the trim on both sides of the door can be installed and finally the door can be finished with paint or stain. A project like this one will generally take between 1-3 days depending on the wall surfaces in case they need to be patched with plaster or sheetrock.
