The Best Deal on New Replacement WindowsGetting a great price on new vinyl replacement windows is easy if you follow a few of our simple steps. In order for a window company and you to do business both of you must show each other trust and respect. As a buyer you must show the window company why you would be a perfect client, read on to find out how. A perfect client researches a company before they set up an appointment. Check out the window company's BBB report, state license and be sure to Google them and check for both positive and negative results. Compliment the company on their positive results and be sure to let them know that they are in your home because you did your research. The last thing a window company wants to hear is "we will have to research your company" it tells the sales person that you don't trust them! If you are getting 2 or 3 estimates be sure to tell the sales person that early in the conversation, you need to set your ground rules up front. "We are having 3 estimates this week and we will make up our mind this weekend, we are not making a buying decision this evening" is a perfect way to get the message across early in the conversation. The next step is to let them know that you will call them on a certain day to let them know if they earned your business. It is very important that you actually follow up and actually call the salespeople back to let them know one way or the other. Avoiding their follow up phone calls and e-mails is rude and shows a lack of class and character. In order to get the best price possible you should do as many windows as possible at the same time. 2-5 window jobs are generally priced much higher than 12-20 jobs since the company's overhead is much higher for small jobs. If you have friends, family or co-workers who need their windows replaced then referrals can sometimes get you a lower price. Offering to place a site sign in your front yard for a month or two works well if your street gets plenty of traffic. Ask about the company's referral program, some companies have cash back programs to reward their clients for referrals. If you can bring a window company business at no cost to them they can afford to give you a great deal on your replacement window project! Some companies offer a same day discount in order to entice you into buying on the same day. In the past I have written about most of these discounts being fake. Over the past couple of months I have learned the logic behind a few of the "same day discounts". If a window company has to come out to your home 2 or 3 times they are not able to see other potential clients during that time. Generally a good window company will sell one in three jobs so by them visiting your home 3 times they are missing out on another job. Another factor is the price of gas, if a window company is traveling 30 miles each way to your home it cost them almost $50.00 in gas and vehicle overhead for each trip. The final factor is labor and labor burden, one trip to your home is cheaper than paying for 2 or 3 trips. In conclusion, a same day discount is more than a "sales trick' in most cases. Here's a short list of added tips: 1. Have all decision makers present for your appointment. 2. Be on time for your appointment. 3. Set any ground rules at the start of the appointment. 4. Offer the sales person something to drink (not beer). 5. Turn off your TV and other distractions. 6. Listen and ask questions. |
