High Cooling Bills - Replacement Windows Can HelpWindows are an integral part of every home and also one of the biggest sources of energy loss. In other words, if you are receiving high heating bills then you need to look for a replacement window. If you have installed inefficient windows in your home then you can lose up to 15 times more heat as compared to a similar amount of area in terms of wall space. Most of the walls these days have at least one window and this can affect the cooling bills and heating bills significantly. Therefore, if you are thinking of getting replacement windows to reduce the cooling bills then here are some glass options that you can consider. Low-E - Hard Coat: Low-E stands for Low-emissivity, which is basically a thin, transparent metallic coating that is applied to a glass pane so that it can reduce the amount of heat transfer taking place through your window. The coating has the ability to reflect solar heat during the summer and can thus keep your home cool. At the same time it can also reflect the radiant heat inside your home during the winters and can thus keep your home warm. Apart from this a low-E coated glass can block anywhere between 30%-95% of UV rays, which can help protect your furniture, artwork and any wooden artifacts. Low-E (2): The low-E (2) is also known as sputtered Low-E soft coat. There is one basic difference between the standard low-E and the low-E(2), which is that the low-E(2) glass consists of a sputtered or layered coating as opposed to the single coating. This helps in increasing UV protection and insulation. Double Pane or Triple Pane Replacement Windows: These replacement windows consist of insulated glass that can trap air between two glass panes and thus increases insulation. Gas Fills: If you want to make your replacement windows become completely insulated, then you can have the airspace between two-glass panes filled Krypton or Argon gas. This type of replacement window can work very well in homes that are at a lower elevation. These are some of the best choices you can get for replacement windows as they will work efficiently and ensure that your heating bills are considerably reduced. One of the other things you should always check prior to purchasing a replacement window of any type is the energy star rating. Look for a window with a low U-Factor, a lower number means a better rating! |
