Normal Sized Windows Are A MythQuestion; Are my windows the "normal size" or will I have to custom order them? Answer; Some areas of the country have "popular window sizes" while other areas of the country have a wide variety of window sizes. Some homes have two window sizes, one size for the bathroom windows and another size for the rest of the house. Other homes have one size for the front of the house, one for the sides, a different size for the bathrooms, a different size and style for the kitchen and in some cases a different size for the upstairs windows. Some older homes might have several windows that are around the same size with 1/4"-1/2" of difference between them. In extreme cases I've measured windows in homes that have 10 or more different sizes. Professional window companies will measure each of your windows and order them to the exact size in order for your new windows to properly fit your existing window opening. Windows that are properly measured and installed will work properly and provide you with years and proper operation. Good luck on your window project and remember there is no such thing as a "normal size window" or a "standard size window". |
