Replacing a Window With a Patio DoorQuestion: We would like to replace our window with a new patio door, can this be done and how much will it cost? Answer: Yes it can be done! Switching from a single or double window opening to a patio door is a complex project but in most cases the job can be completed in a couple of days. There are a ton of factors that will determine your project cost but a good "ballpark figure" is around $4000-$5000. The first step in determining your project price is the price of the patio door. A good triple pane patio door will cost you $2000-$3000. The next factor is properly supporting the floor or roof above the patio door opening, generally a new header (beam above the door) and new studs that will support the header are required. If your wall has electrical wires in it, an electrician will need to reroute the wires so they are not in the way of your new patio door. Another factor is how much of your siding and interior wall surface will have to be reworked in order to make your new patio door look like it belongs in it's new home. While it sounds like a complex project, most experienced door and window companies tackle projects similar to yours several times a year. In the end you will have a nice big patio door that opens up your home to your back yard. Good luck with your replacement patio door project and feel free to contact us with any questions. |
