Changing a kitchen double hung window to a kitchen garden windowIt's no secret that I am a big fan of kitchen garden windows. Nothing brings me more joy than removing a dull double hung or casement kitchen window and replacing it with a nice garden window. The biggest enjoyment comes when my clients reap the rewards of their new window. As you can see in the picture, a double hung window in a kitchen does not offer much space to grow plants. On this particular house the kitchen does not receive much sun so the plants never had a chance to grow to their full potential.
Once the new kitchen garden window was installed it added more depth to the kitchen. The area above the sink now expands out about 16" from the house providing plenty of space for plants and decorative kitchen items. Since the garden window does not have meeting rails (where double hung windows meet in the middle) my clients can enjoy a clearer view. The shelf in the middle of the window can be removed to allow for larger plants. While a picture is like a thousand words, my pictures fail to show how this kitchen became much larger by simply added a new window. ![]() Kitchen Garden Window |
