Standard Window Sizes

Question: What are the standard window sizes?

Answer:Standard window sizes are a myth, while everyone talks about standard sizes in fact they do not exist. Last week I looked at windows that were over 8' tall and 36" wide, I also looked at a basement window that was only 11"x16". Most professional window companies will custom order all of your windows so that each window will fit the opening perfectly. Some of the home centers will stock a few "stock sized" windows for hacks who will "make it work somehow". In the long run the perfect sized window for your opening will fit better, last longer and look better from both the inside and the outside.

Generally replacement windows are priced by the "united inch" this means one width measurement plus one height measurement. An example would be a 32 wide x 56 high window would be 32+56=88 inches or 88 united inches. When it comes to pricing anything under 100 or 101 united inches is a standard window size. Now this really doesn't mean much to you if you are looking for standard replacement window prices including installation. If you live in MA or RI, I created a list of our standard window prices including labor, material, taxes, permits and most of the extras, to view our REPLACEMENT WINDOW PRICES <--click there. Hacks? You, my friend, are a DOLT. Not every consumer can afford custom windows and may need a "more common' or standard as you say, size window to fit their need and budget. I've been installing them for over 25 years and have a grand reputation in that regard. You need to yank the yuppy stick out of your ass. Good day.

I agree with Michael... and in my case, I am framing in a new building and am going to frame in my windows for standard sizes. Take a look at any of the old school architectural templates. They include the 'standard' window sizes... they do exist and if you can frame your structure to accept the standard size, you will save a lot and have access to the largest possible selection of brands.

I am a stained glass artist. I would like to make a panel to fit into a "standard" sized window. The town I live in has mostly old Victorian homes, which is the type of window I want my pieces to fit into. So what I want to know is a typical most common sized window. Help!

I also agree with michael, you are a dolt. Standard sizez is very common as is custom ordered. There is a standard window size that is something like a #23, #24 which is something like 38" x 50" approx, I also am looking for the chart,

Hey Michael, and Mark....
Are you really getting all pissed off over anothers opinion about "standard" window sizes?... Its definitely not something to get all worked up over. Take your prosac, and a deep breath, and then think about the importance of the subject before you blow your valve.
Just some friendly advice! have a great day!

I'm sorry, I have to agree with michael and mark. I designed our house and made the window sizes whatever i happened to have stretched them to (amateur, i know) and our building cost estimate for windows was outrageous! I switched them to the 'standard' 36'' and the bill is much more manageable. it may not be a standard size, but it's more common and therefore the price drops because building suppliers stock them for us 'hacks' that want to use them. why pay so much more for ony an inch? i guess we'll just have to 'make them work somehow'.. um new construction!!! does anyone do that anymore?? you're talking only replacing, what about us builders?
