Triple Pane Patio DoorsQuestion: Should we spend the extra money on triple pane patio doors or will double pane patio doors work the same? Answer: Since patio doors have a large glass surface and glass is a poor insulator, you should invest in the best glass possible. Granted replacement patio doors are not a cheap project and adding a third layer of glass is bound to increase the upfront cost. You will only have to pay the added cost once and in return you will have lower heating and cooling bills for years to come. When you add a third layer of glass (triple pane) to a patio door you are also adding another layer of Low E which protects your carpet, floors, furniture and window coverings from fading. This extra layer will also will help in keeping the outside climate outside of your home. When the sun is beating down during the summer your inside glass on your patio door will feel nice and cool to the touch! During the winter your glass will feel nice and warm to the touch, once you compare it to your single or double pane windows you will want to change them to triple pane glass. Generally a good quality patio door will last you over 35 years, if you take the upfront cost of triple pane patio door glass and divide it by 35 heating and cooling seasons the price begins to look much more affordable. Good luck on your project and feel free to contact us with any questions |
